Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self.
This week we reflect on our habits... some that are unconscious (good ones like breathing) and the ones we may or may not be aware of (a.k.a. the "bad" ones). However, the good news is that all habits can be upgraded and/or changed to ones that support a happier and healthier lifestyle.
You may think referring to breathing as a habit is a bit strange, yet it is an automatic and unconscious process of the body that we can improve by being conscious of it, as shown in the article: "Breath: The True Barometer of Your Health".
Then there are things we do that we may not consider as habits, yet they've become so entrenched in our lives that they are. Two examples: stress and being over-busy. Jude Bijou reminds us "Don't Let Stress Get The Upper Hand", and Yvonne Tally instructs us on "Giving Busy the Boot: Kicking Your Busy Habits". Pankaj Vij, MD provides some ways to turbo-charge your metabolism in "Habit Hacking: Optimizing Your Settings".
While we tend to think of habits as physical things we do (or don't do), emotional behaviors can also be habits. Eileen Workman encourages us to develop the habits of compassion, kindness, generosity, intimacy, grace, and sustainability (among others) in "Transforming Humanity By Becoming Whole".
And of course, our additional articles also help us along the path of creating a better world for ourselves and for all of humanity by bringing us "food for thought" as well as "food for the heart". Scroll down below for the links and short intros to all of the new articles this week.
Wishing you enjoyable insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, and loving week.

NEW ARTICLES THIS WEEK
Don't Let Stress Get The Upper Hand
Written by Jude Bijou, M.A., M.F.T.
We've become so focused on how we'll maneuver to fit it all in that we no longer stop to smell the roses or breathe in the fresh air. Desperately we strive to gain control over the unknown. And we are hard on ourselves when we don't measure up to some internalized standard. Summed up, we're "stressed" out. Does this apply to you or someone you know?

Giving Busy the Boot: Kicking Your Busy Habits
Written by Yvonne Tally
The busy habit is just like any other habit — breaking it takes practice. You may be accustomed to rushing from place to place, saying yes when you really need and want to say no, or being the go-to person all the time, and it’s exhausting! I’m sure you know far too well what that feels like...

Breath: The True Barometer of Your Health
Written by Guy Joseph Ale
Breath is the foundation of everything, and everything begins with breath. Breath is the true barometer by which to measure your mental, physical, and emotional states: levels of anxiety, fitness, tightness, ease, or stress. The quality of your breath indicates how balanced and aligned the different systems of your body are at any given time.

Habit Hacking: Optimizing Your Settings
Written by Pankaj Vij, MD, FACP
While healthy eating, regular physical exercise, stress management, and getting enough sleep constitute advice that our grandparents might have provided, we all need the tools to move from knowing to doing, from thought to belief to massive action.

Transforming Humanity By Becoming Whole
Written by Eileen Workman
If we’ve learned anything, it’s that we create less of whatever we fail to reward and more of what we reward. It should therefore come as no surprise that the creative outputs and capacities of our two most neglected centers—heart and spirit—are marginalized in society today.
