Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self.
This week we reflect on coming face-to-face with ourselves... on facing our suffering, discovering our intentions, clarifying our choices, and of course taking action towards the reality we wish to empower.
Today, on Father's Day, I wrote a short piece (This Father's Day: Let Not The Children Suffer) asking you to take action about the atrocities taking place at the Mexican border... unnecessary (and cruel) suffering inflicted on children and their parents.
In our other featured articles, Jeff Eisenberg writes "Pain Is A Given, But Suffering Is Optional" and Lisa Barretta offers an article entitled "Scars That Wound, Scars That Heal". And of course we don't focus just on suffering, but on the antidote in "A Cardiologist Prescribes Bliss: The Bliss Rx" and "The Miracle of Purification: Finding Your Way Home".
We gain insight on the workings of the Way of the Tao in "Synchronicity Is the Language of the Effortless Mind". And, as usual, we offer numerous additional articles on a variety of topics. Scroll down below for the links (and short intros) to the new articles added to the InnerSelf website this week.
Wishing you insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, and loving week.

As I sit down to write this message, today is Father's Day. The day that children honor their fathers. However my message to you today is about honoring the children and the family. This is a plea to take action at some horrible injustices and callous behavior that is currently taking place in the USA.

Pain Is A Given, But Suffering Is Optional
Written by Jeff Eisenberg
Most people who seek out Buddhism think that practice will enable them to eliminate their pain and provide them with a state of permanent happiness. But the reality is that all that Buddhist practice will do is help us develop the skills to cope with this constant dissatisfaction and not turn our pain into suffering.

Scars That Wound, Scars That Heal
Written by Lisa Barretta
I interviewed numerous people who have regrettable ink and most admit their decision to get a tattoo was impulsive and not really contemplated. Their experiences with having a bad tattoo included suffering from severe depression and panic attacks. Some people even resort to therapy and antidepressants over a bad tattoo.

A Cardiologist Prescribes Bliss: The Bliss Rx
Written by Kavitha Chinnaiyan, MD
I sat quietly, listening to her pain-filled words. She had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and was in my office for preoperative cardiac evaluation. She began to sob softly. Why had good health eluded her even though she did everything right?

The Miracle of Purification: Finding Your Way Home
Written by Jon Mundy
Awakenings may happen because of some alarming event like a negative medical diagnosis or the death of someone you love. An awakening may rise out of necessity or it may come as a “sobering” of a drunken ego overwhelmed with guilt. Once awakened, we must prepare ourselves for the journey.

Our identity, or ego, is the aspect of ourselves that attempts to control and plan our present and future experience. But as we all know, no matter how hard you try to control life, it somehow has a way of changing those plans.
