InnerSelf's Daily Inspiration
April 29, 2024
The focus for today is:
My job provides me with a sense of competence,
which contributes to my wellbeing.
Today's inspiration was written by Lis Ku:
Striking the perfect work-life balance, if there is such a thing, isn’t necessarily about tinkering with when, where and how we work – it’s a question of why we work. And that means understanding sources of happiness that might not be so obvious to us, but which crept into view over the course of the pandemic.
Attempts to find a better work-life balance are well merited. Work is consistently and positively related to our wellbeing and constitutes a large part of our identity. Ask yourself who you are, and very soon you’ll resort to describing what you do for work.
Our jobs can provide us with a sense of competence, which contributes to wellbeing.

This is Marie T. Russell, co-publisher of InnerSelf.com, wishing you a day of wellbeing (today and every day)
Comment from Marie: Oftentimes when I am engrossed in a task that I am doing to the best of my ability, I find a subtle smile on my lips. Doing "a good job" whether at work or in the garden or in the kitchen, or wherever, gives me an inner feeling of peace and joy. At the other end of the equation, when I am doing things "just to get them out of the way", I experience more of a frustrated rushed feeling that is the opposite of peace. So... which to choose? Seems like a no-brainer to me... aah... a "no-brain" and a "yes-heart"... Interesting... it just came to me that brain rhymes with pain... and heart rhymes with art... there may be a message there for how to live our lives!
Our focus for today: My job provides me with a sense of competence, which contributes to my wellbeing.

Personal Business: Using the ASA Way to Build an Inspired, Purposeful Team
by Shuaib Ahmed
When Shuaib Ahmed migrated from India to America at the age of six, he never imagined that internalizing the sage words and actions of his maternal grandmother, the woman who’d raised him, would help him build a thriving legal empire on two opposite coasts of the United States. In Personal Business, he debunks the myth of work-life balance based on lessons from his personal experiences, instead encouraging a new, revolutionary ideology: humans’ personal and professional lives are intertwined far more profoundly than we give acknowledge, which means our successes or failures in one can affect our achievements in the other.
Through his tried-and-true approach, the ASA Way, Shuaib shares how individuals can embrace this truth to thrive and lead successful, meaningful lives filled with purpose and fulfillment in both aspects.
